About Thorsten Walter:
Thorsten Walter advises companies and entrepreneurs on individual and collective employment law, as well as on compliance and data protection law.
A key focus of Thorsten Walter’s work in employment law is advising companies on restructuring and IT projects. He supports companies with the strategic planning and preparation of restructuring projects, assists in negotiations with employee representatives, and represents his clients in employment tribunal proceedings. In IT projects, such as the implementation of Microsoft M365 or Microsoft Copilot, he advises companies on matters relating to collective labour law and data protection law, including intra-group and cross-border data transfers.

In the field of data protection law, a particular focus of his work is advising companies on the implementation of (digital) business models and the establishment of data protection and information management systems.
Thorsten Walter also advises companies in the field of artificial intelligence. He supports companies in developing corporate strategies for the use of AI systems, addressing data protection issues arising from the use of AI, and drafting internal company documentation (e.g. guidelines, data protection impact assessments, risk assessments, etc.) as well as with the implementation of the AI strategy (under both individual and collective law) (e.g. training employees in the use of AI systems, drafting work instructions, guidelines and (company) agreements, negotiations with employee representatives).
In the field of compliance, Thorsten Walter works alongside our partners specialising in IT and cyber security and crisis communication to support companies in the event of data breaches and cyber attacks. He advises companies on implementing the legal requirements for IT and cyber security under NIS 2.
His clients primarily include national medium-sized companies from a variety of sectors.
Together with Dr Kim Manuel Künstner, he hosts the podcast RECHTSANWALTER & LEBENSKÜNSTNER., the podcast from SCHULTE LAWYERS., which covers current topics in the fields of compliance and data protection.
Biography:
Thorsten Walter, born in 1973, studied at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He was a (founding) partner at a medium-sized law firm, where he worked in the employment law department for many years. In 2021, he and his team joined the law firm SCHULTE LAWYERS., where they strengthened the employment law team. As the partner in charge, he is responsible for the data protection practice.
Thorsten Walter is a specialist lawyer in employment law, a certified data protection officer (TÜV Süd) and a partner at SCHULTE LAWYERS.
